Anti
Discrimination
_________________________________________________________
People
are discriminated against (picked on because they
are seen as
part of a group rather then as an individual) for different reasons, it may
be because of their race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
Within
these pages we will look at the 4 main types of discrimination, and
find
out how young people in Tower Hamlets have been addressing them.

Anti-Bullying
All these above types of disrimination
can lead to bullying and can have
an affect on the victim and the people around them.

Bullying
Bullying is a major problem in secondary schools. Many people are affected
by bullying; many of them suffer in silence because they believe that the
problem will get worse if they tell someone.
Create
movies to beat bullies competition!
Bullying
must not be tolerated and anything we can do to raise awareness
of
the issues facing our young people will make a big difference. This project
is a great
way of allowing you to use your imagination, and creatively send a message
to the
bullies that bullying is wrong. Youngsters have until October to put together
a
four-minute film on bullying, which can be an animation, drama or even a musical.
The
closing date for film entries is October 29 and the final films will
be
showed at a special screening during Anti-bullying Week.

Homophobic
bullying

Bullying
causes permanent damage to young people
and
blights the schools and colleges where it takes place.
One
of the most invisible forms is homophobic bullying. But it’s not
just a gay issue.
Homophobia affects all pupils and students – lesbian, gay, bisexual and
straight.
Within these pages you will find resources to support young people, activities
to teach
about issues relating to the subject and links to find support groups and research
further.
